Today Plymouth's Liberal Democrat MEP Graham Watson has visited two of the city's schools, Devonport High School for Boys and Devonport High School for Girls, where he spoke to politics' and language students.
Following the visit Graham Watson commented;
"I always enjoy visiting schools and colleges. Students are the voters of tomorrow and it is vital they know that their voices are heard. It was good to hear their views and concerns, and also explain a little about my role as an MEP and address some of the common misconceptions about 'Brussels'."
Graham who is himself a qualified interpreter who speaks four European languages, and is currently learning Mandarin also visited the schools language labs and commented;
"Learning other languages is increasingly important and gives our young people key skills in the global market place. With increased global trade, our ability to communicate with people across Europe in new and developing markets is a becoming increasingly important."
